Going for Gold

We now have 63 pupils on our Going for Gold programme, designed to support and enhance the development of our elite athletes.

Our ethos of inclusive excellence aims to promote sporting opportunities for everyone.  Our Going for Gold programme aims to help some of our most talented athletes realise their potential and achieve a good sport/study/life balance through training, seminars and workshops. Pupils in the programme train in a variety of sports, including basketball and ballet, climbing and cross-country, fencing and football.  Earlier this term, Going for Gold athletes in Years 8 to 10 took part in a series of fitness tests at Guildford’s Advanced Performance Lab to help monitor progress and facilitate tailored training. The Going for Gold programme is overseen by our Deputy Director of Sport, Miss Hayes, who used to play football for Queens Park Rangers in the women’s premier league south division.

In addition to the Going for Gold programme, we invite Sports Scholarship applications for entry at 11+. We have recently extended these scholarships to pupils currently in Year 7 to 9; these prestigious awards provide our most talented young sportswomen competing at county-standard or above in our main school sports.

Achievements this term have included the selection of seven pupils for the English Schools national ski squads – Evie in Year 7; Alice and Melissa in Year 8; Maddy, Millie and Momo in Year 10; and Hannah in Year 11; and five netballers from our U15 and U19 squads were selected to join Saracens Mavericks futures academy – Elena, Isla and Sylvie in Year 10 and April and Isla in the Lower Sixth.
