Leavers’ Ceremony

We bid a very fond farewell to our Upper Sixth leavers via Zoom this year.

Students, parents and teachers joined from their sofas, with some staff donning sequins and bow ties to celebrate the successes of this year’s leavers. Our guest speaker, diversity champion and alumna Dr Jess Wade, spoke about female role models and the importance of increasing access for women and people of colour into the world of science. She said that confidence and curiosity were essential characteristics, something which South Hampstead girls have in abundance. She also referenced her role model, Angela Saini, whom we welcome as our Speaker Series guest this term to talk to pupils and staff about understanding racism and unconscious bias.

We were entertained by speeches from Mrs Bingham and outgoing Head Girl, Sophie, who reflected on a wonderful seven years in the Senior School. There was a performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion by Upper Sixth Music Scholar, Thea, before Mrs Bingham and Mr Waller read an excerpt from each student’s valedictory report, with special mentions to the numerous prize winners. Each student was awarded a book, carefully chosen for them by a member of staff. We wish them all well on their next adventure and look forward to welcoming them back – our doors are (nearly) always open.
