Motivational Monday – Dentistry

Our latest Motivational Monday features cosmetic dentist Simmi Bharadia, who left South Hampstead in 2008.

At school, Simmi’s favourite subject was Physics. Centred around inquisition and discovery, she was drawn to the subject because she has always liked asking ‘why’. Such curiosity was instilled in her from a young age at South Hampstead. She has fond memories of her teachers, Dr Walgate from the Physics department and Mr Arundale from the Chemistry department, and describes how important these academic figures were in developing her passion for Science.

Simmi currently practises cosmetic dentistry four days a week and is studying for a Master of Science in Orthodontics. Juggling both a career and her studies is no easy task, but her love of learning drives her to broaden her knowledge. She carries this passion with her in both her professional career and academic studies and the values she learnt at school continue to resonate strongly with her; she even suggests that the school’s logo of a torch symbolises the fire, commitment and determination that South Hampstead lit within her.

“South Hampstead encourages its pupils to be independent thinkers and unapologetic visionaries through cultivating and nurturing the development of strong women.”

Throughout her school years, Simmi created special and lasting bonds with her peers which are still as strong as ever, with many of her school friends remaining her closest friends today.  Her advice to her 16-year-old self? “Enjoy your time at school. Appreciate it for both the learning opportunities and for the friendships, because the memories and bonds you create really are unmatched… and thank your parents! I will always be grateful for everything they have done for me.”

Simmi recently returned to school to conduct a mock interview for one of our students  –  a valuable and inspiring experience for both.
