Motivational Monday – Architect & Consultant

Class of 1981 alumna Judy Slater gives her younger self some wise advice.

At South Hampstead, Judy’s favourite subjects were Biology and English, and she was a keen member of the school choir and orchestra. Moving into her teen years, she notes how taking part in extra-curricular activities, such as swimming and cycling, kept her grounded.  South Hampstead aims to promote friendship through collaborative learning, which is something Judy remembers well. Sharing ideas in lessons was crucial to the enjoyment of her studies. Since leaving school, Judy qualified as an Architect, having studied at Cambridge and Westminster universities.

Throughout her career, Judy has worked professionally on large commercial and infrastructure projects in Europe (including 20 Bank Street, Canary Wharf, pictured above) and the Far East. She is now an independent consultant. Judy has also offered her advice at South Hampstead careers fairs and to individual students. She encourages current pupils to ‘keep an open mind, experience different fields and seek out mentors.’  And her advice to her younger self is simple: ‘Don’t worry, be happy!’
