Pembrokeshire Eco Trip

35 pupils from Year 8 and 9 ventured to Wales to learn how conservation can address global goals.

The four-day environmental trip encouraged pupils to develop teamworking skills and expand their horizons, whether donning wetsuits and helmets for a cold water, coasteering adventure or trying bug-bolognese and cricket cookies whilst learning about sustainable food sources. After arriving at their bell tent accommodation, the girls went on a treasure hunt around Britain’s smallest city, St Davids, which culminated in local ice-cream eating. Other activities included a boat trip around Ramsey Island, spotting seals and various seabirds, taking part in a beach clean-up to support Surfers Against Sewage, and plenty of outdoor fun – from campfires and yoga to countryside runs – with no smartphones in sight.

Over the course of the trip, the girls applied their learning about sustainable development goals to come up with sustainable business ideas, resulting in some innovative outcomes. Our joint winners designed a refillable paint palette, with paint pigments produced from natural sources, and pencil cases made from scrap materials from fast fashion companies.

The trip was run by Flooglebinder, a B Corp sustainable travel company and, like on all our school trips, travel was carbon offset.
