Sherborne Abbey Evensong

This weekend the Chamber Choir visited Sherborne Abbey to give a lunchtime concert and sing Evensong.

After a long train journey, they arrived in Sherborne for a civilised coffee break before going straight into an hour-long rehearsal for the lunchtime concert. At 12.30pm members of the public were already starting to fill the Abbey in anticipation. The choir gave an absolutely stunning performance, singing a selection of some of their favourite pieces from the last couple of years –  a varied 40 minute programme of sacred, folk and more contemporary pieces of music, performed completely from memory.

After the concert the girls went for a well-deserved lunch before returning to the Abbey for Evensong. The repertoire for the service was a challenge for the girls as, for most, tackling a psalm and singing a set of responses was a completely new experience. However, they completely rose to the occasion and performed beautifully. As soon as the service was finished, they rushed to catch their train, although not before, at the insistence of the Rector of Sherborne Abbey, promising to return again next year.  The girls are looking forward to making it an annual tradition.
