Sports Day

The sports ground was a colourful spectacle of competitive camaraderie and sporting excellence at this year’s Sports Day.

Energetic House Captains (including one sporting a banana costume and another dressed as a bag of fries) galvanised their housemates to support girls across the school in an array of events. From team obstacle courses and egg and spoon relays in the ‘fun pen’ to record-breaking usage of glitter and face paint, our ethos of ‘sport for all’ was apparent.

Sporting excellence was also championed, with girls showing great grit and determination on both track and field. Congratulations to all those who collected medals, in particular those who set new times and distances: over ten school records were smashed over the course of the day.

The loudest cheers of the day, however, were reserved for the staff relay. The first leg saw Mr Jones speeding past his Maths Department colleagues on a (no doubt) carefully calculated curve. The tight race ended on a fiercely fought final leg, with World Duathlon Champion Ms Levin very rapidly gaining substantial ground on a striding Mr Waller, whose last minute lunge for the line ensured Benton just pipped Potter to the staff relay gold.

Congratulations to all involved for their team spirit and athletic endeavours, with a special mention to Bodington, the overall winners. The Edbrooke Cup was presented to the Bodington House Captains by our special guest and former Headmistress, Ms Jean Scott, who helped to acquire the 4 acre sports ground for the school back in 1997.
