Stellar A Level results

Students have been celebrating a phenomenal year of A Level results at South Hampstead, with over 56% of girls obtaining a clean sweep of straight A*/A grades.

Over 76% of all entries were awarded A*/A grades at South Hampstead this year, with more than 37% of entries awarded A*s.  In a year group of 73, eleven girls achieved at least three A* grades; eight girls obtained straight A*s in all of their subjects, including four students with four A*s.

Students achieved success across the board, with excellent results in all 23 subjects. In 14 subjects, 100% of students obtained A* – B grades. Despite some concerns nationally about the difficulty of the Edexcel Mathematics paper this year, 41.5% of South Hampstead students gained A*s.  Other subject highlights included English Literature and History – 65% and 57% of students were awarded A*s respectively.

The outstanding results have secured students places at top universities, both in the UK and overseas, to pursue a diverse range of courses, from Materials Science and Medicine to Economics and English; four leavers are off to art college. Once again, girls also excelled in the Extended Project Qualification – the independent research project that allows students to explore their interests and ability beyond the A Level curriculum: 100% of candidates were awarded A*/As.

Mrs Bingham commented: “I’m delighted for the girls. This is our best set of A Level results, with more students than ever achieving the very top grades. Despite the national headlines claiming that boys are outperforming girls, our Sixth Form leavers are emphatically bucking the trend. Our amazing class of 2019 have contributed so much to our vibrant school community. I very much look forward to seeing what they go on to do next.”
