Superleague Netballers

‘Superleague’ teams help to train South Hampstead’s netballers of the future.

The Vitality Netball Superleague is the UK’s top-level netball competition featuring 10 teams from England, Wales and Scotland, including London Pulse – central London’s first team. The Netball Superleague ultimately helps to identify and develop future national players. The first step to becoming a London Pulse player, and joining their performance pathway, is to be selected to join one of eight hubs across London, Essex and Kent.

Since September, South Hampstead has been hosting Pulse’s North London hub, who run training sessions at the Senior School each week. Through our relationship with Pulse, Chiara Semple – who plays GA and GS for London Pulse – now coaches South Hampstead netballers, from Year 4 through to the Sixth Form.

Currently three South Hampstead pupils – Leila, Flo and Liana – train with Pulse’s North London hub, while Liana has also been selected for Pulse’s Under 17 National Performance League training group. South Hampstead netballers are also training with other superleague teams across London, including Filipa (who plays in Pulse’s West London hub) and Noa and Lucy, who have been selected by Saracens Mavericks Academy.

Our PE staff are also involved with the superleague teams: Miss Matthews, our Director of PE & Sport, is now Pulse North London’s Lead Coach, while Assistant Director of Sport and Head of Netball, Miss Hardy, is Assistant Coach with Saracens Mavericks Academy.

An ethos of inclusive excellence pervades our outstanding sporting provision at South Hampstead, including netball – one of our key winter sports. While expert coaching helps to support and develop our elite squads, we also focus on providing opportunities for all, with competitive netball fixtures for A through to E teams.
