Sustainability Changemaker

Design Teacher Ms Wrigglesworth has been highly commended in the London’s School Changemaker of the Year Award.

The Sustainable City Awards 2021, run by Global Action Plan, celebrate London’s unsung heroes who have been a force for change. They recognise students and teachers who have demonstrated action that is ‘above and beyond’ the norm to make school communities more sustainable.

Ms Wrigglesworth is South Hampstead’s consultant teacher on sustainability and a UN accredited climate change teacher.  As well as her involvement with the school’s strategic Project Zero initiative – a pioneering programme to meet key sustainability goals by the school’s 150th anniversary in 2026 –  she oversees the Eco Team, pupil participation in the London Schools Eco Network, and an action-packed Eco Week each year.  During lockdown, she initiated a partnership with FEAST With Us, a local charity who help to reduce waste and combat local food poverty.  As a design teacher, she is passionate about focusing on the circular economy and showcasing the good that design can do for the world.

Her enthusiasm has galvanised a vibrant culture of positive environmental action and engagement in the whole school community; we are thrilled that her commitment has been recognised.

Ms Wrigglesworth commented:

The girls here are so creative, both in thought and action – I’m proud to play a part in developing their sense of purpose in such a positive way.

South Hampstead was named the Independent School of the Year for Environmental Achievement last year.
