Virtual Prizegiving

Our annual prizegiving ceremony, celebrating the successes of the past academic year, shifted online.

Parents and pupil prizewinners logged in from home to hear from guest of honour and speaker for the evening, Dhatri Navanayagam, Strategy Director at WPP. In her role, she develops campaigns focused on driving positive social change. A few years ago, she was seconded by the CEO of WPP to work at the United Nations’ Women HQ, where she developed global gender equality campaigns and policy initiatives in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Dhatri, introduced by Head Girl Eliza, spoke about the importance of making an impact by discovering your values and finding a social purpose. Having attended South Hampstead from 2000 to 2007 on a full bursary, she shared her personal story, reminding the girls of the responsibilities that come with the privilege of a good education.

“My time at South Hampstead opened up a world of opportunities. We were encouraged to try new things and aim high… my self-confidence really grew.”

She advised the girls to connect with different people, to expose themselves to different points of view and to look beyond their echo chamber to find their authentic voice, citing Michelle Obama: “Your story is your power.”

Mrs Bingham summarised the highlights of another high octane year at South Hampstead, before presenting a range of prizes for academic contribution, achievement and a number of subject-specific awards, interspersed with some enthusiastic applause via unmuted mics from over a 100 households across London.  Congratulations to all this year’s winners.
