Towards 150 Concert

We were delighted to welcome back former bursary pupil and renowned pianist Joanna MacGregor CBE to perform in Waterlow Hall as part of our ‘Towards 150’ concert series.

The audience were treated to an evening of Bach, Chopin, Liszt and Piazzolla, performed on our Steinway grand piano which was generously gifted to the school.  The concert was a celebration for the community: an opportunity to say thank you to South Hampstead’s supporters and donors, as we outlined our philanthropic goals for the forthcoming year.  Joanna kindly donated her performance to our Opening Doors campaign, with all proceeds from the evening contributing to our bursary funds.  Ahead of the concert, she also delivered piano masterclasses with three of our talented Music Scholars: Talia in Year 10, and Sixth Formers, Lillian and Masha.

On the evening, we dedicated a beautiful new lectern to the memory of Helen Strange, our wonderful former Chair of Governors, who sadly died in 2020.  Carved out of sustainable, old English oak, the lectern was commissioned from the artist and craftsman, Bobby Mills, inspired by the woodland theme of Waterlow Hall and Helen’s love of nature.

South Hampstead’s ‘Towards 150’ masterplan sets out the school’s ambitions as we look towards our 150th anniversary in 2026 – at the centre is the desire to extend a South Hampstead education to more bright girls with potential, regardless of their family’s financial means.
