Broadening Horizons

In a summer half term like no other, teachers have devised a wealth of new activities to ensure girls continue to expand their horizons.

During guided home learning, Year 8 pupils embarked on a two-day group challenge, tasked with researching and presenting an idea for an educational school trip abroad.  Unencumbered by real world travel restrictions, each group was allocated a continent and set about developing plans for an imaginary international visit, linked to various aspects of the curriculum.  The girls delivered impressive presentations, with destinations ranging from Athens to Cape Town and Cairo to Lima. A finalist from each class was selected by a democratic vote, with the overall winning trip awarded to Alex, Alma, Katie, Nina, Olivia and Willow, who created an appealing adventure to Hawaii.

Head of Year 8, Miss Fajardo, commented: “All students stepped up to the challenge; their collaboration, leadership and diplomacy really stood out. The quality of the work was outstanding – some groups even explored travel insurance and medical information!”

The girls clearly enjoyed working with teammates, learning beyond the curriculum and developing new skills.

“I really enjoyed discovering new things about places.” – Amalie

“The project was a great opportunity to feel like we were back at school working with friends.” – Alex

Numerous trips abroad have been postponed this term – from a New York Dance Tour to a European battlefields visit – but we look forward to offering more visits soon… perhaps even one of Year 8’s proposed adventures.
