Rainbow Challenge

Pupils across the school produced a kaleidoscope of rainbow-inspired work over the holidays.

Girls in the Junior School regularly undertake ‘Open Homework’ challenges, to encourage them to take risks and think creatively. As we entered lockdown, the latest challenge was opened up to the whole school. The rainbow theme was selected, following its adoption as a symbol of hope amid the coronavirus crisis.

Over the holidays, girls of all ages embraced the challenge with great enthusiasm and ingenuity. Inspired entries ranged from refraction experiments to pottery creations, colourful artworks to vibrant creative writing, brightly-coloured baked goods to scientific research, and poignant films to Scratch animations. Many reflected on the spectrum of emotions the pandemic has elicited, focusing on reasons to be hopeful, with numerous girls dedicating their entries to the indefatigable NHS workers. Rebecca in Year 11 wrote a melody, L’Arcobaleno, whose dynamics mirror a rainbow’s arc – her composition was played during an online assembly.

Ms Spencer unleashed her own creativity with some colourful chalk drawing on the patio, whilst Mrs Bingham, who is well over halfway through her 365 day eco-challenge of buying no new clothes for a year, got involved by upcycling an old t-shirt in technicolour tie-dye.

The gallery above showcases just a selection of the imaginative output – well done to all on their cheering efforts.
